RALLY SYSTEM

First of all traffic regulations should never be violated. The Tour will go through some very nice and peaceful regions. Please do respect the environment and those living there, whether animal or man.

Each crew will receive a road book for each day. The road books will be handed out in the morning upon departure. Unlike some rallies where crews are driving on time their will be no fixed departure time. In general departure will be between 8:30 and 9:30.

The crews will be asked to be at the lunch place before a certain time. The same applies for the departure from the lunch place and the arrival at the hotel.

Together with the road books the teams will get a answer sheet.

The navigation system being used is the so-called arrows and points system.

Arrows and points

Most of the navigation is done on map-fragments on which some numbered arrows and points have been drawn.

You should drive from arrow/point to arrow/point in numbered order via the shortest possible route only using roads that are shown on the map fragments. This means that you are not allowed to drive on a road, which is not on the map provided to you.

The first picture depicts the map and the road constructed on it (in red) leading you from arrow 13 to arrow 14. This is thus the road which should be taken.

The second map depicts the situation in the field. Going left on the first occasion is wrong for two reasons. Firstly it will lead you on a road which does not exist (on the map) and, secondly if it would exist it would not be the shortest to arrow 14.

· Arrows should be followed as accurately as possible.
· Arrows have to be included in the route completely in one go, from the beginning until the arrow point.
· If an arrow cannot be driven completely (in one go), it should be tried to drive most of it starting at the foot and ending at the tip of the arrow.
· It is not allowed to drive an arrow or part of it in the contrary direction.
· It is allowed to drive over the numbered arrow or point before its turn or after its turn.
· It is allowed to use a road more than once and in both directions.
· Some roads have a cross drawn over them, indicating they should not be used.
· Ongoing borderlines do interrupt a road-crossing.
· Only roads with at least one continuous borderline may be used.
· If the itinerary constructed on the map cannot be driven you should reconstruct an itinerary around the problem so as to drive most of the original route.
· Turning on the road is not permitted.

The above regulations are exemplified in this map section where a few complications are compiled. Take some time to think about the right road to take.

The red line should be followed starting, in this example, from arrow 15. Constructing the shortest way to arrow 16 brings you over the small green road. The red road would have been shorter but it has a cross indicating you should not take it.

From arrow 16 coninue to arrow 17.

Following your way to point 18 brings you to construct the itinerary to hit the point from the top (shortest way) and not from the bottom.

From point 18 to arrow 19 via the white road in order not to go against the direction of the arrow 17. Arrow 19 starts at the right. In order to drive the arrow entirely a road to the beginning needs to be constructed on the map and driven.

In reality these situations may occur a few time in the whole week. Failing to construct the right way will not get you lost. You will just not get the first price.

The road you are taking is being monitored through controls.

controls

The control sheet has pictures of controls which you will encounter en route. The pictures are set in consecutive order but are missing a crucial part as shown in next picture.

You will be asked to fill in the gap on the answer sheet as proof that you did indeed drive the correct road.

Most "controls" are on the right side of the road and can be spotted easily. The aim of the controls is to prove that you were on a certain road. The controls can also be on a road were you should not be this in order to dissuade those hunting blindly for all the controls. Of course do not write does down.. If there are "controls" within city limits it will be on the main road through. You are not supposed to search for the correct road within city limits.
