BART KLEYN

Up until recently Bart Kleyn has been working as an investment manager for BioPartner Start-up Ventures and as a Patenting & Licensing officer for the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. These two activities bring him in contact with many early stage companies and have provided him with a large experience in assessing the true value of innovative discoveries. Bart has also established a wide experience in setting up start-up businesses. Key to his success is a network in the field of food and life sciences..

Several governments consulted Bart for ways to best facilitate innovation in their countries.

Prior to his activities for start-up companies Bart had his own start-up in the medical devices field. He started his professional carrier working for companies such as Du Pont de Nemours and Mallinckrodt Medical for which he fulfilled the position of International Product Manager.

Bart has a Master's degree in Molecular Sciences from the Agricultural University of Wageningen, The Netherlands. He followed a traineeship at the University of Virginia, United States, where he ultimately fulfilled a post-doc position at the department of Pharmacology and the department of Hematology & Oncology.

Bart strongly believes in the significance the environment has for our well-being. For him the beauty of nature or culture in its various forms is a factor, which too often is not taken into consideration in decision-making. Progress is not only about steps forward, it is also about ingraining the cultural and environmental heritage. Only a sound basis will support further development. For Bart this philosophy is represented by the Pantheon in Rome, which in the middle of an effervescent city has supported many purposes in different cultures under a diversity of rulers.
